Sir Basil Spence - United Kingdom

Sir Basil Urwin Spence (13.08.1907 - 19.11.1976) was a renowned Scottish architect. He became known in particular for the Coventry Cathedral and the parliament building in the New Zealand capital Wellington.
Born in Bombay, Basil Spence was sent to Scotland after attending school in India.

There he attended the George Watson's College in Edinburgh in the years 1919 - 1925. Afterwards, Basil Spence studied architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). In London, Basil Spence completed a year of practice and attended evening classes with Albert Edward Richardson at the Bartlett School of Architecture.

In 1930, he returned to the ECA for his final year of study.
