Biography of Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit
Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit was a German physicist, engineer, and glassblower.
He is most famous for inventing the mercury-in-glass thermometer and the temperature scale named after him.
Early Life and Family
Fahrenheit was born in Danzig, Germany, into a German-Hanseatic merchant family. After the untimely death of his parents, who mistakenly consumed poisonous mushrooms, Fahrenheit briefly studied trade before his passion for natural sciences took over.
He became actively involved in research and experiments.
Travels and Achievements
Starting from 1717, Fahrenheit embarked on extensive travels, visiting Berlin, Halle, Leipzig, Dresden, and Copenhagen. During his journeys, he had the opportunity to meet and learn from renowned scientists such as Ole Rømer, Christian Wolff, and Gottfried Leibniz.
